Kano Police Ban Emir Sanusi II Holding Durbar Activities for 2025 Eid-El-Fitr
The Kano State Police Command has prohibited all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, announced the decision on Friday at the Bompai Police Headquarters, stating that the move was necessary to ensure a peaceful and secure environment during the festivities.
He assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to safeguard worshippers at designated Eid prayer grounds.
“As we celebrate, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must put aside our differences and work together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation,” Bakori said.
The Commissioner also urged worshippers to adhere to security guidelines, such as avoiding the carrying of suspicious items. He emphasized a strict ban on horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving throughout the celebrations.
Parents and guardians were advised to caution their children against being influenced by subversive elements, stressing the importance of maintaining public order to prevent any disturbances.
The police urged continued cooperation with security agencies and called on residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
Kano’s annual Durbar, a vibrant cultural event featuring traditional horse parades, has not been held since the emirate dispute began in 2024. However, the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, was reportedly planning to revive the event following Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s directive for its return this year.
