Fire Razes Parts of Onitsha Main Market
A fire outbreak has gutted sections of Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State, causing panic among traders and residents.
The fire, which reportedly started around 6:20 a.m. on Friday in one of the buildings, quickly spread to a nearby structure. The exact cause of the incident remains unknown at the time of this report.
Eyewitnesses said residents, passersby, and firefighters were working together to salvage goods and prevent further damage.
Confirming the incident, the Head of the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, said firefighters were deployed immediately after receiving a distress call.
“The Anambra State Fire Service is currently on intervention at the scene of the fire outbreak at Ifejika Street, by Sokoto Road, Onitsha. The distress call came at 6:20 a.m. today, and our firefighters deployed immediately,” Chiketa stated.
He assured the public that efforts were underway to contain the situation and urged residents to remain calm.
