The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has stated that the upcoming Anambra governorship election in November will serve as a test run for the party’s anticipated victory in the 2027 presidential election.

Abure, represented by the party’s National Women Leader, Dudu Manuga, made this known in Awka on Sunday during a forum organized by the Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI) for aspirants and delegates ahead of the party’s primary election on Saturday.

“We want to use Anambra to test what 2027 will be. Labour Party has grown beyond a briefcase party—we are present in all states and Abuja, preparing for both Anambra and 2027,” he said.

He urged party members to remain united after the primaries, emphasizing that no one should hold grudges. “Let us not be weak, let us not bicker. If we stay united, nothing will be impossible for us to achieve,” he added.

Two LP aspirants, Dr. George Moghalu and Mr. John Nwosu, attended the forum and addressed party members on their manifestos.

Moghalu highlighted the loss of public trust in government as Anambra’s biggest challenge, stating that insecurity and excessive use of thugs for tax enforcement have worsened governance. He suggested that a well-functioning administration would ensure tax compliance without coercion and promote electronic tax collection.
