BREAKING: President Tinubu Sacks Kyari as NNPCL Boss, Appoints Replacement

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made sweeping changes at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), removing Mele Kyari as Group Chief Executive Officer and dissolving the company’s board.
In his place, Tinubu has appointed Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the new Group CEO, while Engineer Ahmadu Musa Kida takes over as the non-executive chairman.
The announcement was made early Wednesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga in a statement posted on X.
“President Tinubu removed all other board members appointed with Akinyelure and Kyari in November 2023,” Onanuga stated.
Kida brings decades of experience in the oil and gas sector, having built a strong track record at Total and gained deep industry knowledge. Beyond his corporate career, he is also a former basketballer and a former president of the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF).
Kyari was first appointed as NNPC chief by former President Muhammadu Buhari and later reappointed by Tinubu in 2023.
