US Blames Hamas for Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The United States has placed responsibility for the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza on Hamas, according to the US State Department.
Speaking with BBC, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that “all parties on the ground” in Gaza must comply with international humanitarian law. However, she insisted that Hamas is to blame for the crisis.
When asked about reports that an Israeli airstrike killed 15 people, including paramedics, civil defense workers, and a UN official, Bruce declined to confirm whether the US government would investigate the incident. Instead, she said: “Every single thing that happens in Gaza is happening because of Hamas.”
Her remarks follow a statement from the United Nations (UN) humanitarian agency, which reported that on March 23, multiple emergency vehicles—including five ambulances, a fire truck, and a UN vehicle—were struck in a targeted attack. 15 bodies, including paramedics in uniform, were later buried in a mass grave.
The head of the UN humanitarian agency in Gaza, Jonathan Whittall, described the situation as “absolute horror”, emphasizing that “healthcare workers should never be a target.”
This development comes as Israel renewed air and ground attacks in Gaza following a breakdown in ceasefire negotiations with Hamas in March. Since then, over 1,000 people have reportedly been killed, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry.
