Dr. George Nweke, the immediate past Head of the Civil Service in Rivers State, has made explosive allegations against the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of orchestrating the destruction of public properties and oil installations.

Addressing the press in Port Harcourt on Friday, Nweke claimed that Fubara was behind the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, allegedly directing his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to carry out the act to prevent impeachment. He further alleged that Fubara had plans to destroy the Assembly’s residential quarters but was thwarted by public outcry.

Nweke, who resigned from office earlier in the week, insisted that President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State saved the region from chaos and economic sabotage. He urged stakeholders criticizing the move to reconsider, stating that more sinister plans were underway.

According to Nweke, Fubara had also hinted at using control over oil pipelines in Rivers and Bayelsa states as leverage in future political negotiations, a claim he found deeply troubling.

The accusations come amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, with Fubara’s suspension and the federal government’s intervention sparking nationwide debate.
