Fubara Denies Allegations of Oil Facility Bombing, Says Nweke is Compromised

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed allegations made by the former Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
Nwaeke, who recently resigned amid the state’s political crisis, claimed Fubara orchestrated the destruction of oil facilities in the Niger Delta, ordered the bombing of the State House of Assembly to prevent impeachment, and conspired to support a Northern candidate, possibly Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, for the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Saturday, Fubara refuted the claims, alleging that Nwaeke had been compromised.
“Ordinarily, I would not have responded, but I need to correct the false impression these allegations may create among the public,” Fubara stated.
He dismissed the claim about a political deal with Bala Mohammed, arguing that as Head of Service, Nwaeke had no access to high-level political discussions. He further noted that Mohammed’s visit to Rivers State as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum was a public event, not a clandestine meeting.
Fubara also denied any involvement in attacks on oil infrastructure or plots against the federal government, reiterating his commitment to peace despite ongoing political tensions.
“The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised. His statements are nothing but a desperate attempt to discredit me and undermine the peace efforts led by Mr. President,” he said.
He urged the people of Rivers State and Nigerians to disregard the allegations, calling them a smear campaign designed to destabilize his administration.
