A devastating fire has destroyed a residential building in Oyo town, resulting in the loss of properties worth millions of naira.

The incident, which occurred at Prince Bayo Sanda Villa in the Farade area on Thursday morning, was reportedly caused by a power surge.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, stated that the entire building was engulfed in flames before emergency responders arrived.

“The fire was reported at exactly 10:35 AM on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Our team, led by PFS11 Makinde, responded promptly, but upon arrival, the building was already fully alight,” Akinyinka said.

Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties. According to an investigation, the fire broke out after electricity was restored while the occupants were away. Unfortunately, residents and bystanders were unaware of the fire service emergency lines, delaying the response by about 45 minutes.

Despite the efforts of the Oyo State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service, the entire building was consumed by the flames. However, firefighters successfully protected surrounding structures and properties.

Authorities have urged residents to take precautions against fire outbreaks and familiarize themselves with emergency contact numbers, including 08067439223, 08054353501, or 615, to ensure a swift response in future incidents.
