Nigeria to Enforce Strict Visa Overstay Penalties, Up to to 10 Years ban – Tunji-Ojo

The Nigerian government has announced new visa overstay penalties set to take effect from August 2025. According to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, foreign nationals who exceed their permitted stay in Nigeria by three months will face a five-year entry ban, while those who overstay for one year will be barred from the country for ten years.
The policy aims to strengthen immigration regulations and ensure compliance with visa requirements. It is expected to affect thousands of foreign visitors and residents.
