Delta State College of Nursing Science has withdrawn the query issued to a student, Osatohemwen Edobor, after facing public pressure over a recorded video of an event attended by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

Edobor was earlier reprimanded by the college for posting a video showing nursing students refusing to eulogize Mrs. Tinubu in a song. During the ‘Health Programme and Distribution of 10,000 Professional Kits’ event in Asaba, Delta State, the event’s compere had initiated a chant praising the First Lady, saying, “Na awa mama be this; we no get another one.” However, the students responded, “Na your mama be this,” rejecting the song.

The query letter sparked widespread criticism, with notable figures such as activist Omoyele Sowore and lawyer Inibehe Effiong calling for its withdrawal.

Following public outcry, the college rescinded the query in a letter dated Friday, March 28, 2025, and signed by the school’s provost, Mrs. R. Evbödaghe.

“The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, in his magnanimity, has directed the school authority to withdraw the query issued to you on the 27th of March, 2025,” the letter stated.

The college further instructed Edobor to return the query letter through the student affairs officer to the provost’s office, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused.
