Benue Assembly Members Disown Rep Agbese’s Petition

Lawmakers from Benue South Senatorial District in the Benue State House of Assembly have distanced themselves from a petition submitted by Phillip Agbese, the member representing Ado Okpokwu Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Agbese had called on the National Assembly to take over the functions of the Benue State Assembly, a move that state lawmakers condemned as baseless.
In a motion rejecting the petition, Kennedy Angbo, the representative of Otukpo Akpa State Constituency, accused Agbese of misrepresenting facts. He described the federal lawmaker’s actions as an “embarrassment” to the people of Benue South, who he said are known for their intelligence and fairness.
“Since yesterday, when Hon. Agbese engaged in that disgraceful act of presenting a petition against his own State Assembly, I have received countless calls from constituents urging me to publicly disown his behavior,” Angbo stated.
Following the debate, Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh, urged the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to disregard Agbese’s petition.
He described Agbese’s actions as a “show of shame” and insisted that the House of Representatives should not take the petition seriously.
