The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, for openly praising Governor Chukwuma Soludo over his infrastructural development efforts in the state.

Speaking at a press conference in Awka, APC state publicity secretary, Dr. Valentine Oliobi, criticized Umahi’s remarks, stating that they undermine the party’s efforts ahead of the November governorship election.

During a recent visit to Anambra to flag off a federal road project, Umahi had toured some of Soludo’s completed projects and declared that the governor’s performance could leave him without opposition in the upcoming election.

Reacting to this, Oliobi dismissed Umahi’s comments as mere flattery, accusing the minister of attempting to placate the governor rather than offering a genuine assessment.

“Ndi Anambra are not deceived by Minister Umahi’s sugar-coated words for Soludo. Between the lines of his so-called praises lies a diplomatic expression of disappointment, especially considering that the governor’s newly constructed roads are already deteriorating,” Oliobi stated.

He insisted that Soludo’s administration has failed the people, adding that Umahi’s remarks should not be seen as an endorsement but rather a subtle reminder that Anambra is far from where it should be.

The APC also accused Umahi of lacking discretion, arguing that his words were inappropriate given that he serves in an APC-led federal government, which is fielding a candidate against Soludo in the governorship race.

“Minister Umahi’s misguided comments are nothing more than an endorsement of his business ally, Governor Soludo. Both men have shared interests in federal road construction projects in Anambra. But for Soludo, the era of empty promises is over. Anambra cannot afford to reinforce failure by granting him another term in office,” Oliobi added.

The APC spokesman further listed areas where he claimed Soludo had failed, including substandard road contracts, a struggling economy, and worsening security, insisting that Anambra voters would reject him in November.
