Russia Condemns Deployment of Peacekeeping Troops in Ukraine Amid NATO Tensions

Russia has strongly opposed the potential deployment of Western peacekeeping forces in Ukraine, warning that such a move could lead to a direct confrontation between Moscow and NATO.

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russia’s foreign ministry, accused the UK and France of planning a military intervention disguised as a peacekeeping operation. Her remarks came as world leaders gathered in Paris for a high-level summit to discuss strengthening support for Ukraine.

The summit, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, brought together officials from nearly 30 countries, NATO, and the European Union to deliberate on military aid and security guarantees for Kyiv. Among the key topics was the formation of a “Coalition of the Willing,” a group of European nations prepared to send troops to Ukraine under a potential peace framework.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the summit, urging European leaders to stand firm against Russian aggression. “Europe knows how to defend itself. We must prove it,” he stated, emphasizing the need for continued military support.

As the war enters its fourth year, France and the UK are leading efforts to create a multinational force to bolster Ukraine’s defense and prevent further Russian incursions. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure long-term security in the region and deter future conflicts.
