National Assembly moves to Create Office of Prime Minister

The House of Representatives has passed a bill for the second reading to establish the Office of the Prime Minister as head of government and the Office of the President as head of state.
The proposed legislation is part of 32 constitutional amendment bills that progressed in the House on Thursday.
Among them is a bill seeking to allocate specific seats for women in the National Assembly and state houses of assembly. Another bill aims to reduce the timeframe for pre-election petition rulings and establish pre-election tribunals to regulate legislative suspensions.
Lawmakers also advanced a bill to amend the eligibility criteria for the offices of President, Vice President, governors, and deputy governors.
Additionally, a bill addressing the electoral status of the Federal Capital Territory and separate proposals for the creation of Wan State and Gobir State passed second reading.
So far, 113 constitutional amendment bills have cleared the second reading stage.
