North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has given approval for the mass production of the country’s attack drones after evaluating the work of the Unmanned Aeronautical Technology Complex and the detective electronic warfare research group.

State media reported on Wednesday that Kim oversaw a performance test of various reconnaissance and suicide attack drones developed by an institute under the complex. The trial demonstrated the drones’ intelligence-gathering capabilities, jamming systems, and striking power when deployed for tactical missions.

Also showcased was a reconnaissance drone capable of tracking and monitoring enemy troop movements both on land and at sea. According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Jong Un assessed the effectiveness and strategic value of the AI-powered drones and approved the military’s proposal to expand production capacity.

The North Korean leader emphasized the importance of unmanned equipment and artificial intelligence in modern warfare, stating that they should be top priorities for the country’s armed forces as part of its long-term defense strategy.

According to Kim, the newly developed drones incorporate the latest technology and will play a key role in monitoring potential threats and collecting vital intelligence to enhance military operations.

Meanwhile, the United States Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, warned on Tuesday that Kim Jong Un is seeking to strengthen North Korea’s strategic and conventional military capabilities, potentially targeting U.S. forces, allies, and even the U.S. homeland.

Gabbard, speaking before the Senate Intelligence Committee, stated that North Korea aims to bolster its global leverage, defend its regime, and gain de facto recognition as a nuclear power. She also noted that Pyongyang may soon conduct another nuclear test as the country continues testing intercontinental ballistic missiles to demonstrate its advancing capabilities.
