Abia Government to Revoke Land Documents Without Recertification

The Abia State Government has announced that all land documents not submitted for recertification will be revoked, as enforcement of title recertification and rent demand notice begins.
The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Chaka Ikenna Chukwumerije, made this known on Thursday in Umuahia, warning that property owners who fail to comply within 14 days will face legal action.
According to Chukwumerije, the government has been extending the deadline since May 2024, urging landowners to submit their title documents for recertification alongside proof of ground rent payment and other statutory fees. Owners were also required to present fencing permits and approved building plans where applicable.
He emphasized that all housing estates, including IBB Phase 1, Agbama, Isieke, and World Bank in Umuahia and Aba, are included in the enforcement.
“Non-compliance will be considered proof of non-payment of ground rent or failure to meet land allocation terms, which could lead to the revocation of your Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) or withdrawal of land allocation under existing laws,” Chukwumerije warned.
Landowners are directed to submit the required documents to the Ministry of Lands and Housing at the Abia State Secretariat in Umuahia or the Aba Zonal Office.
