Prince Harry quits African HIV/AIDS Charity

Prince Harry has stepped down as a patron of Sentebale, the British charity he co-founded to support young people with HIV and AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana. His resignation follows a dispute between the charity’s trustees and the board chair, Sophie Chandauka, which he described as “devastating.”
Sentebale, which means “forget-me-not” in Lesotho’s local language, was established in 2006 in honor of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, who was known for her humanitarian work. The disagreement led to Harry, his co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, and the board of trustees resigning from their roles until further notice.
The conflict arose after the trustees requested Chandauka to step down, a decision she refused. In response, she reported them to Britain’s Charity Commission. In a joint statement, Harry and Seeiso said the breakdown in relations made the situation “untenable.”
“Although we may no longer be Patrons, we will always be its founders, and we will never forget what this charity is capable of achieving when it is in the right care,” they stated.
Despite these developments, Sentebale confirmed that it had not officially received resignations from its royal patrons. Chandauka, in her statement, insisted she would continue in her role, adding, “There are people in this world who behave as though they are above the law and mistreat others, only to play the victim card.”
Prince Harry, who has been involved in various African charitable projects for years, currently resides in California with his wife, Meghan, and their two children.
