The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly rejected a call by House of Representatives member Francis Waive to adopt Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 election.

Waive had recently urged the APC to support Oborevwori as a sole candidate, arguing that such a move would be beneficial. However, the party, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, distanced itself from the lawmaker’s remarks, stressing that his position was strictly personal and did not reflect the official stance of Delta APC.

“We wish to state unequivocally that Waive’s position is purely his personal opinion and does not reflect the stance of Delta APC, its leadership, or the generality of its members,” the statement read.

The APC also took a swipe at Oborevwori’s administration, describing it as a failure characterized by financial recklessness and lack of developmental progress. It accused the governor of mismanaging over ₦2 trillion in federal allocations while failing to deliver significant infrastructure, economic, or social improvements in the state.

Reaffirming its commitment to unseating the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APC assured its members and the public that the party’s 2027 gubernatorial candidate would be chosen through a transparent and competitive process that reflects the people’s aspirations for real change.

The party emphasized that it has “an array of eminently qualified and capable individuals who will offer Deltans a viable and credible alternative in 2027.” It also urged members and the public to disregard Waive’s statement, reiterating its resolve to “rescue Delta State from the shackles of misrule and the failures of the PDP-led administration.”
