Kogi jailbreak: NCoS confirms Rearrest of 9 out of 12 Escapees

Security operatives in Kogi State have successfully rearrested nine out of the twelve inmates who escaped from the Federal Correctional Facility in Koton-Karfe on Monday, March 24, 2025. Confirming the development, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, stated that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the jailbreak.
Fanwo emphasized that the Kogi State Government is collaborating with all relevant security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state. He disclosed that of the twelve escapees, nine had already been recaptured shortly after the incident, with efforts ongoing to track down the remaining fugitives. The commissioner dismissed the notion of a typical jailbreak, asserting that preliminary findings indicate internal compromise and collusion, which facilitated the escape.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to security, Fanwo assured that authorities are taking all necessary steps to maintain law and order. He added that the state remains dedicated to supporting correctional facilities within its jurisdiction to ensure a secure and well-managed penal system.
