Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 42-year-old Indian national, Ms. Neetu Neetu, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano, for attempting to smuggle 72 parcels of heroin disguised as chocolates.

The illicit drug, a Class A substance weighing 11 kilograms, was discovered in Neetu’s luggage during an inbound clearance of a Qatar Airways flight (QR1431) from Bangkok, Thailand, via Vietnam and Doha. The arrest took place at the arrival hall of the Kano airport on Friday, March 14, following credible intelligence and a thorough search by NDLEA operatives.

Reacting to the development, NDLEA Chairman, Brig Gen Mohamed Marwa (rtd), described the arrest as evidence of a growing trend where drug trafficking syndicates recruit foreign nationals, including white women, to smuggle illicit drugs into Nigeria. He commended the NDLEA’s vigilance and use of modern technology in thwarting such attempts.

In a separate operation in Kano, NDLEA operatives on March 20 arrested a 45-year-old suspect, Michael Ogundele, with a 50-litre steel gas cylinder along Gadar Tamburawa, Zaria-Kano Road. Acting on credible intelligence, officers used welding tools to cut open the cylinder, revealing 50,000 pills of tramadol (225mg) concealed inside.

Another suspect, Sunday Ogar, 40, was apprehended in the Gunduwawa area of Kano on March 19, with 27kg of skunk, a highly potent strain of cannabis. Meanwhile, a 40-year-old female suspect, Khadijah Abdullahi, was arrested on March 18 in Lungun Bulala Yalwa, in possession of 424 bottles of codeine-based syrup.

In Lagos, NDLEA operatives also arrested two suspects, Olumuyiwa Kolawole and Samod Adisa, as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illicit drug distribution networks across the country.
