Three of the twelve inmates who escaped from the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre in Kogi State have been rearrested following a coordinated security operation. The Acting Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Sly Nwakuche, confirmed the development during a press briefing at the facility on Monday.

Nwakuche also expressed deep regret over the killing of a correctional officer by the fleeing inmates, describing the incident as a tragic loss to the service. He assured the public that all necessary measures were being taken to track down the remaining escapees and bring them back into custody.

“We are committed to ensuring that every single escapee is recaptured. No effort will be spared in restoring order and preventing future occurrences,” Nwakuche stated.

He further urged members of the public to assist security agencies by providing any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining fugitives. Authorities have intensified their search operations across Kogi and neighboring states, with security personnel placed on high alert to prevent the escapees from evading justice.

The jailbreak, which has raised serious concerns over security lapses at the correctional facility, is currently under investigation. Officials have yet to disclose further details regarding the circumstances that led to the escape, but sources indicate that additional security reinforcements have been deployed to the center to prevent a recurrence.
