Kogi Central constituents Protest over Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Recall attempts

Hundreds of residents from Kogi Central took to the streets in solidarity with their senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, following moves to initiate a recall process against her. The demonstration comes in the wake of her suspension from the Senate on March 6 over alleged “gross misconduct” stemming from a dispute over seating arrangements with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, further escalating tensions between them.
The protesters carried banners with inscriptions such as “Natasha, Pride of Kogi Central” and “We Stand with Natasha”, denouncing the recall attempt as a politically motivated plot. Many demonstrators mocked those supporting the move, alleging they were bribed with ₦10,000 and jollof rice by Akpabio’s allies.
Legal battles have also shaped the controversy. On Thursday, a Federal High Court in Lokoja issued an injunction barring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from processing recall petitions. However, by Friday, the court lifted the order, reaffirming that constituents have the constitutional right to recall their representatives.
The protest underscores rising political tensions in Kogi Central, with Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters rallying against what they perceive as a targeted attempt to undermine her mandate. As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on INEC’s next steps and how the senator’s political future will be shaped by the ongoing power struggle.
