Gunmen Ambush community Security guards in Zamfara, Kill 10

Suspected bandits have ambushed and killed six operatives of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG), popularly known as Askarawa, along with four local vigilantes in Anka Local Government Area of the state.
The attack occurred as the operatives were returning from a successful joint operation led by the Nigerian Army, during which several bandits were neutralized. However, as they made their way back, they were ambushed by armed assailants, leading to the tragic loss of ten lives.
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, confirmed the incident in a statement on his verified Facebook page. He revealed that the victims had participated in a military-led operation in Anka before being attacked near the Bagega axis.
“Gunmen ambushed some members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards in Anka Local Government. The attack happened after security forces and the CPG, led by the Nigerian Army, raided bandit hideouts, successfully neutralized several criminals, and recovered weapons,” the governor stated.
Lawal disclosed that six CPG operatives and four vigilantes, known as Yan Sakai, were killed, while three others—two CPG members and one vigilante—remain missing.
The victims were buried on Sunday morning.
Zamfara remains one of the states in Nigeria’s North-West and North-Central regions most affected by banditry, with frequent attacks on communities and security personnel.
