The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested 32 suspected kidnappers across various forests in the state.

Parading the suspects at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure, the state capital, the Corps Commandant, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, attributed the success of the operation to the collaborative efforts of other security agencies in the state.

According to Adeleye, the suspects were apprehended in Akure North, Akure South, Ose, and Akoko local government areas over the past week.

“All of them were smoked out of the forest reserves and areas where these unfortunate incidents have been happening,” he stated.

The Amotekun boss also disclosed that the state government has set up a joint task force to combat criminal activities, urging residents to provide timely and actionable information about suspicious movements.

“Recently, there has been an upsurge in criminal activities, including kidnappings, in Ondo State. Our officers, along with security personnel from neighboring local governments, launched operations in forest reserves and crime-prone areas.”

He further revealed that in the last week, Amotekun operatives arrested 32 suspected kidnappers, who are now undergoing interrogation, alongside 26 other criminal suspects, bringing the total number of those paraded to 58.

Adeleye reassured residents that the government’s directive for a statewide security crackdown was yielding results.

“Following the recent killings in Akoko North, officers from all security agencies, including Amotekun, have been patrolling the area, and I’m pleased to report that normalcy has been restored.”

He listed affected areas such as Ago Dada, Ago Oyinbo, Ago Ademekun, and their surroundings, adding that joint patrols by the Army, Police, Civil Defense, and Amotekun have been deployed to maintain security.

“The government has also directed that Amotekun control posts be established in these remote areas to prevent criminals from returning once security operatives leave.”

The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to rid Ondo State of criminal elements and ensure the safety of residents.
