Suspected cultists kill 73-year-old pensioner
Suspected cultists on Tuesday killed a 73-year-old pensioner, Mrs. Adetutu Ajayi, in her home at Moferere, Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
Residents said they were gripped with fear, as the deceased’s head was smashed, her fingers, eyes and other parts of her body chopped off.
She was found in a pool of blood in her three bedroom bungalow by church members, who visited her.
The septuagenarian was a retiree of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture where she worked for 35 years. Her body has been taken to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) mortuary, Ado Ekiti.
Her daughter, Titilayo, who spoke with reporters yesterday, said she became aware of her mother’s death through a phone call by the deceased’s church members, who visited her following her absence at a prayer meeting.
She urged the police to investigate the incident and arrest the culprits.
The deceased’s 82-year-old husband, Pa Clement Ajayi, who lives at
Irun Akoko in Ondo State, described the incident as sad, saying: “It shows we are not safe in this country.”
Police spokesman Alberto Adeyemi said: “Yes, we are aware. We got the information and our men are working to ensure her killers are brought to book.”
