Seven die in Kogi auto crash
Seven people were killed and four others injured in a motor accident in Osara, Adavi local government area of Kogi State.
The incident occurred at about 4:00 p.m. at the Sawmill area of Osara on Monday.
An eyewitness, Mohammed Imgiyaaz, told journalists that the victims were returning from the Lokoja Market when the crash occurred.
He said: “There is a popular driver called Egbunu who was known for transporting passengers along the Okene-Lokoja road with different vehicles.
“On his way back from Lokoja, where he went to buy corn and other food items, the late Egbunu removed the back seat of the bus to put food items belonging to passengers. He sat on the driver’s seat alongside two others in front, while the back seat was occupied by four passengers.
“The remaining seat in the bus was loaded with food stuff. A truck was coming behind them which later pushed the bus into the bush and it tumbled severally. All the seven passengers inside the bus died instantly.”
The truck driver, our correspondent gathered, escaped from the scene for fear of being attacked by villagers.
Confirming the incident, the Head of Operation, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Kogi State, Suleiman Mohammed, said five people were confirmed dead, while four others injured.
He said the victims’ families have been contacted.
