From George Aluo, Houston
Ex -international, Segun Odegbami has given a pat on the back to ex-Rangers based in the United States of America (USA) for putting together the annual convention of the club.
Odegbami spoke Saturday night in Houston, Texas where he was one of the special guests that graced the third edition of the ex-Rangers convention which took place at Ayva centre.
In Odegbami’s words: “I m not one of those who is crazy about coming to America. But when I got the invitation for this event, I said I must make it because this reunion is something unique. I want to commend those behind the annual ex-Rangers convention. This clearly shows that Rangers is not just a football club, but a movement.”
Chairman of the ex-Rangers body, Donald Stone Igwebuike had during his welcome address pointed out that the whole idea of the convention is for them as formers players based in the United States to keep bonding together as one family. He stressed that the group also use the convention as a forum to raise funds needed to take care of some former players who today are distressed.
Igwebuike was full of praise for the patron of the group, Benson Ejindu who he noted has been the major financier and sponsor of their events.
“This convention in Houston is the third edition. For us, it is an opportunity to get better together and remember what it was like playing for Rangers. And this year’s event is unique because it is the 40th anniversary of our exploit in Africa when Rangers conquered the continent. We must give kudos to our patron, Benson Ejindu who has been our financial pillar,” Igwebuike said.
Ejindu who was chairman of the convention urged the state and federal governments to do more for the nation’s heroes. He assured that ex-Rangers in USA with his support would see how they would help out former stars who are distressed. Ejindu doled out $5000 to the ex players body.
