ITTF Challenge Nigeria Open: Quadri happy at a chance for laurels after 2016 absence
22 countries battle for supremacy
The highest ranked African male player,Aruna Quadri, said he was delighted to be part of the 2017 competition which he missed in 2016 as a result of his participation in the 2016 Olympics.
Quadri added that he was aware that the championships would be competitive and therefore would do his best to make Nigeria proud.
“I am very happy and thank God for the opportunity to be part of this championships, I know it’s going to be tough but I will make sure I represent my country well,’’ he added.
Ola Aruba, a representative of Premier Bet Super Sports, said that the gaming organisation was glad to be associated with the championships and pledged continued partnership with NTTF.
Aruba said the purpose was to assist in the growth of the sport and to encourage players to participate in international championships.
NAN reports that the championships was sponsored by Premier Bet (Baba Ijebu) Super Sports, Synerpet Ltd, Starco Insurance Plc, Unilever, Point Delanyard, Super Sports, Eko Hotel Suites and Harvey Sports Ltd
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 4th edition of the championships is holding at the Molade Okoya Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun, Stadium, Lagos, and will end on Aug. 13.
NTTF President Ishaku Tikon said at news conference to herald the competition commencement that it was the highest recorded participation since the inception of the tournament in 2013.
Tikon said it was an impressive turnout and that the federation and its sponsors had made adequate arrangement to make the 2017 edition remarkable.
“We have 22 countries that are featuring in this year’s edition and this is the highest so far which makes the competition outstanding.
“Based on the number of entries, we expect challenges and we are ready to pick them and make sure that everything works out fine,’’ he said.
He added that the body would continue to partner with its sponsors to sustain the tournament.
