BENIN-OWENA RIVER BASIN: Group Want Osibanjo To Address Perceived Injustice
Benin National Congress (BNC), a socio-cultural organization of the Benin people, has urged the acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to as a matter of urgency redress what it described as its marginalization in the current management board of the Benin Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA).
In a press statement made available to the LEADERSHIP in Benin, on Wednesday and signed by David Ekomwemrenren, the BNC Director of Publicity, the organization stated that “we received with deep sadness and consternation the recent appointments in River Basin Authorities
in Nigeria where Edo South senatorial district was again denied of a single representation in the management board.
“Yes, the Managing Director is from Edo State. But he is from Edo North senatorial district. The Benins of Edo South whose representation ought to be sacrosanct being the most populated district and host community to the regional headquarters is left out.
“Also, we have the greater percentage of the rivers in the state among other positive indices”
Going further, BNC asserted: “This absurdity is by all interpretation an unprovoked attack on the sensibilities of our people and it should
not be allowed to stand for too long without redress.
In conclusion, the organization appealed to Professor Osinbajo to urgently remedy the lopsidedness in the interest of fair play and justice.
