Al-Makura Decries Non-remittance Of PAYE By FCT Workers In Nasarawa
Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has decried the non remittance taxes by workers of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) resident in Nasarawa State to the coffers of the state government as stipulated by relevant tax laws.
Al-Makura made this known on Thursday while commissioning some projects in Karu local government area of the state.
He regretted that the state government was finding it difficult to meet its obligation to its citizens in the provision of basic infrastructure and services such as health care, roads, water and schools due to the enormous pressure put on the public utilities by surging working populace from the FCT.
The governor, therefore, called for the constitution of a joint planning commission between the FCT and neighbouring states in order to work out modalities on how to retire PAYE tax benefits to state of residence of FCT workers.
“Ironically Nasarawa state does not receive any support to assuage or reduce the budden on it that is why it is very necessary that neighbouring states reactivate this joint planning commission were certain funds will be given to assist these neighbouring states in absorbing the shock of hosting those who cannot live in the FCT.
“What is more, the FCT accesses one percent of the national revenue specifically for the purposes of solving some of these problems but as ironic as that is the burden is on the neighbouring states who getting nothing at all,” he added.
