Abducted nursing mother regains freedom in Bayelsa
Breastfeeding mother of nine-week old baby, Mrs. Roselyn Okokingho, kidnapped in Towon brass, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa, has regained freedom.
It was learnt that the victim abducted b by gunmen was freed by her captors on Tuesday.
The husband of the victim, Mr Pius, said Wednesday that his wife spent two weeks with her captors describing the experience as traumatic.
He said that the abductors dropped her off at a lonely place along the Brass river waterways.
He said sympathisers saw her and brought her home.
He said that the new baby, who was denied breast milk leapt up in joy on sighting his mother.
He said the incident compelled the family to resort to infant formular rather than the exclusive breast feeding that the baby was used to.
He, however, refused to disclose the ransom paid to kidnappers.
He earlier said that the kidnappers established telephone contact with him and demanded N10 million ransom.
He said his offer of N100, 000 was turned down.
He said: “I can confirm that my wife is back and I thank God that she is in good health, I am also grateful to sympathisers who came to her rescue and all those who stood by me during the traumatic two weeks.
“I also applaud the media for the selfless advocacy for the freedom of my wife, I am sure they were under intense pressure as the kidnappers said that the incident was enjoying media spotlight an indication that I had money but I told them I was in public service.
“The media spotlight was not my making, I did not solicit media coverage in any way, I was too confused to think straight, it was just an act of God that the sympathy of the new baby got people in the media to take up the issue as their social obligation”.
